We ensure that the paper and cardboard waste used as a raw material is turned into new products, preventing it being sent to landfill and helping extend its life cycle.
Claiming that we make some of the most sustainable recycled paper in the world is all very well – on paper
But we want to prove it, so, since 2020, we have voluntarily submitted to an Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

PHILOSOPHY
WATER FOOTPRINT
We’re one of the few paper manufacturers who entirely reuse water via a closed circuit, keeping our fresh water consumption down to 1.4 l/kg of paper. That’s a real industry benchmark, as the average for the sector is 9 l/kg. (Figures: Aspapel 2022)
SOLAR POWER
Our solar panel installation generates 480 kWh/year. We promote the use of renewable and self-generated energy, which supplies us with 100% green energy that’s both affordable and environmentally friendly.
BIOMASS
We use 5,000 t/year of woodchips from forests in our region as fuel for our biomass boiler.
NEUTRAL
We make CO2-neutral paper. If we used fossil fuels, we would release around 3,500 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year.
FROM SUSTAINABLE SOURCES
Every year, we turn 20,000 tonnes of used paper into new paper. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certify that 100% of the raw materials we use come from controlled, sustainable sources with guaranteed traceability.
At Pere Valls, we are proud to produce high-quality paper that’s clearly environmentally friendly. On our way to climate neutrality, we work year after year to achieve sustainable production, building concepts like environmental responsibility, social commitment and the circular economy into our business philosophy. But we don’t stop there. In fact, every day we strive to improve our manufacturing and conversion processes to become even more efficient, conserving our region and treating it with the respect it deserves.
